The Drifters, 1965's I'll Take You Where the Music's Playing ended up as a bittersweet farewell to the combo's final incarnation during the 1960s. The personnel included Johnny Moore (lead vocals), Charles Thomas (tenor and lead vocals), Eugene Pearson (baritone vocals), John Terry (bass vocals), and Billy Davis aka Abdul Samad (guitar).

The Drifters' Golden Hits is a 1968 compilation album by American doo wop/R&B vocal group The Drifters. The collection of the bands' later hits charted at #22 on Billboard's "Black Albums" chart and at #122 on the "Pop Albums" chart. Music critic Robert Christgau numbers it among the essentials for a basic library of albums representing the 1960s. In 2003, Rolling Stone listed the album at #465 in its list of "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Originally released on the Atlantic label, the album has been re-released on CD by Atlantic. A Drifters' compilation by the same name was released by Intercontinental records in 1996, but it has a different track listing.

Wikipedia......

During the Drifters' 19 years on Atlantic Records, nine LPs of their music were released, but in all of that time and among that array of 12" platters, this was the only one that was recorded as an actual album, as opposed to having been assembled from singles and B-sides.

This debut album didn't appear until 1956, more than a year after Clyde McPhatter had left the group that he founded. Thus, this LP was actually an oldies release from the date of its first appearance, and even more so when it was repackaged in 1958 (a time when McPhatter's solo career was running as hot as a pistol) with new notes. With McPhatter's high tenor voice featured as the lead on every song (basso Bill Pinkney occasionally stepped forward as well).
